Characters respond based on their own emotional state, the rapport the user builds, the history of the conversation, and their own random impulses. Users can make mistakes without being unfairly judged or embarrassed and learn from the characters' reactions. They can replay a few exchanges or entire conversations, or rewind during a conversation, giving themselves a "do over." When users replay the conversation, they can hear their own voice talking to the character. Learning from mistakes in the simulated conversations reduces anxiety and helps users avoid the same pitfalls with real people.
